You may have noticed that I’ve been very quiet over the past 2 weeks.
And if you’re a member of the Sugar Freedom Collective you’ll already know exactly why (and thank you for all the amazing support)!
It’s been a rough few weeks of challenge, emotion, lows and learning to process uncomfortable emotions.
Just when I thought I knew the ins and outs of all the heavy emotions, I was hit with a new one.
A new challenge.
A whole new low.
Greif.
And in this I’m happy to report that I practiced being with my emotions and sitting with them instead of numbing out or looking for a quick escape.
I let the tears flow whenever they came up (a lot).
I gave myself plenty of time to sleep and focus on self-care.
I reached out for support when I needed it most.
I observed and became hyper aware to the cravings that came up.
I noticed how quick and easy it would have been for me to numb out. To find the quickest way out of the depths of darkness and bring some joy back into my life. Cravings for Netflix, food, a nice glass of wine…
And in this I learned how to be in the heavy emotions instead of escaping. It was NOT fun.
But it was NECESSARY for my healing and processing… and health!
THIS is emotional health.
That said, I still DID find times to numb out on Netflix and Instagram. To take my mind off everything going on.
And I’m OK with that for now. I’m proud of the fact that I didn’t reach for food (aka sugar) or alcohol to get me through.
And I hope this inspires you to practice emotional health next time these heavy emotions creep into your life. Whether it’s grief, sadness, depression, anger, stress or any other uncomfortable emotion.
Label it.
Create space to sit with it and be in it.
Feel it.
Let it flow.
Cry it out.
Dance it out.
Get that energy moving.
This is the path to real healing.
I have been reflecting a lot on this lately. And in this blog post I share more on the importance of feeling on the path to healing.
Here’s the bottom line…
When we can build emotional resiliency, and learn to sit in our uncomfortable emotions, we take away the mental power of our addictions.
And from this space we can rid ourselves of toxic addictions for good and find true freedom!
Love & Light,
Dani
